If you’re at least 16 years old and a proficient swimmer, you can become an American Red Cross Water Safety instructor. Learn to teach children and adults safety, survival and swimming skills, and teach your community about water safety. It is fun and you’ll develop valuable teaching and leadership skills. 30.5 hours
Course will begin middle of May and first week of June. Deadline to sign up will be May 1st. (36 hours) Cost: $150 for employee participants who pass and qualify to teach swim lessons at Downata Hot Springs. Must be at least 16 years old. Certification valid as long as you teach one lesson within a two-year period.
Trade to Swim Program:
Adults who are interested in trading a family pass for teaching lessons will get a discount on the course fee. These participants in the Trade to Swim Program will pay only $50 for the Red Cross Water Safety Course class and includes a digital (pdf) manual. Participants must teach 8 sessions (32 classes) of swim lessons to qualify for discount. A summer season pass for their families will be included and swim lessons for their own immediate children. Teach additional lessons at Downata Hot Springs on your own and only pay for the student pool and Red Cross fee. Basic stroke knowledge and swimming skills required. Swim test required.
